The Universal Basic Education Commission has reiterated its commitment to advancing innovation in Nigeria’s basic education sector through research and integrating smart technology-driven education.

Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr Hamid Bobboyi, stated this on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Research Management Committee at the UBEC Digital Resource Centre in Abuja.

Bobboyi emphasised that the Commission’s research projects would be aligned with the nation’s goal of achieving a technology-driven education system.

“Our focus is to ensure that all research initiatives supported by UBEC will contribute significantly to establishing a smart educational system that will enhance learning outcomes for our students,” he said.

During the event, the National Coordinator of the UBEC Digital Resource Centre, Prof. Bashir Galadanci, highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts by the committee members.

He urged them to work together to ensure the successful implementation of smart education initiatives across the country.

Prof. John Gbenga Adewale, the Chairman of the newly inaugurated 20-member committee, assured that the members would dedicate their efforts to helping the Commission achieve its objectives.

“We are committed to working diligently to support UBEC’s vision of integrating smart education into Nigeria’s education sector,” he said.

The committee includes notable members such as Dr. Peter Adeseeni Matemilola, Dr. Nseabasi Essien, Dr. Emmanuel Chukwunweike Nwangwu, Dr. Adetunmbi Laolu Akinyemi, Prof. Comfort Ekpo, Dr. Fatimah Jibril Abduldayan, Dr. Daniel Aideyan Osarenmwata, Dr. Ibeabuchi Glory, Prof. Ibrahim Lawal Yazid, and Dr. Faruk Ambursa, among others.

Arewa PUNCH reports that over the past few years, UBEC has actively pursued a digital transformation agenda that led to the establishment of model smart schools in all 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The initiative is part of UBEC’s broader strategy to modernize Nigeria’s basic education system through the adoption of smart technology.
