Thomas Tuchel and Erik ten Hag

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag faces an uncertain future at the club after a mediocre start to the new season.

According to Football Insider, Gareth Southgate is high on the shortlist of managers being looked at as a potential replacement for the Dutchman. It remains to be seen whether Manchester United hierarchy are prepared to persist with him in the coming weeks.

They have backed Ten Hag significantly in the transfer market, but he has not been able to deliver the results on the pitch. It would not be a surprise if the Manchester United hierarchy decided to part ways with him.

Southgate has done an impressive job with the England national team and he has guided them to the finals and semifinals of major international tournaments. He could be an interesting appointment for the Red Devils.

Man United eyeing Thomas Tuchel

Meanwhile, he is not the only name on the shortlist and Thomas Tuchel is reportedly on the Manchester United radar as well. The German manager has worked in England before with Chelsea and he helped them win the UEFA Champions League. He is reportedly keen on a return to English football and a move to Manchester United could be attractive for him.

It remains to be seen how the situation develops over the next few weeks. Manchester United have taken just seven points from five league matches so far and a club of their stature is expected to do better. They were expected to push the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City for the league title this season. They will be expected to return to the UEFA Champions League as well.

Manchester United have certainly have a quality squad at their disposal, and they will have to turn things around quickly if Erik ten Hag wants to hold onto his job.
