England team v Switzerland, the quarter-final match kicking off at 5 pm on Saturday.
After the woeful performances we have watched so far, thanks in the main to the clueless selections and tactics from Gareth Southgate, what will the England boss do this time?
Southgate with incredible luck yet again at major tournaments, an easy group (Serbia, Denmark, Slovenia) that England struggled in.
However, then fluking a potential knockout route to the final of Slovakia, Switzerland, then the winners of Netherlands v Turkey.
Whilst in the other half of the draw it is only one of France, Spain, Germany, and Portugal who can make it to the final.
After the crazy Gareth Southgate approach to the Slovakia last 16 match, where Jude Bellingham saved his bacon with a wonder goal out of nothing with 30 seconds of added time to go, the last thing the England manager would have wanted, was to be without his Real Madrid star for this Switzerland match.
However, that almost was the case, when UEFA said they were investigating a gesture Jude Bellingham made when scoring that late late equaliser against Slovakia.
BBC Sport report – 5 July 2024:
‘UEFA deemed that Bellingham has violated “the basic rules of decent conduct” which led to him receiving a €30,000 fine and a suspended one-match ban, not immediately enforced, meaning it will only be triggered should Bellingham re-offend.’
So thankfully, Jude Bellingham getting a one-match ban BUT suspended, so he can play against Switzerland (and if getting to semi-finals and final…).
