Once again this season, PSG disappointed in the Champions League. By losing at the Parc des Princes in the last seconds against Atlético de Madrid, Luis Enrique’s band confirmed that for the moment they should not be counted on to glean points in the UEFA index. Fortunately, France has found saviors who are, to say the least, unexpected. And like two weeks ago, Monaco, LOSC and Brest had a great time and collected valuable points in the UEFA index.

The Principality club won in the final moments of the match in Bologna (0-1) thanks to Thilo Kehrer, Lille held on to a solid draw against Juventus Turin (1-1) while the incredible formation of Stade Brestois won on the lawn of the reigning Czech Republic champion, Sparta Prague (1-2). The Principality club and the Breton club also have a 99% chance of being present at least in February for the qualifying play-off according to the predictive model ofOpta. Good news for France’s UEFA index.

France regains its fifth place

Some observers will say that the Ti-Zef have an ultra-easy schedule. But in the European Cup, nothing is simple, especially for French clubs. Nice had the painful experience once again at the Allianz Riviera against Twente, even if they managed to grab a draw at the end of the match. A complicated Europa League for the two French clubs involved since OL were caught at the wire on the Hoffenheim pitch while leading 2-1 in stoppage time.

Despite these contrasting results, France gained one place and is now firmly in fifth place, ahead of Spain. It is well placed just behind Germany in the standings for the current season. Special mention for Portugal. Currently 2nd in the ranking, the latter is hot on the heels of England and is ahead of Italy thanks to the current good form of Sporting CP which notably crushed Manchester City 4-1 and Vitoria Guimarães in the Europa Conference League, who beat Mlada Boleslav 2-1.
