The United Kingdom's Deputy Prime Minister, Angela Rayner, says the UK government is committed to deepening economic ties with Ghana, stressing mutual aspirations for growth and prosperity.

Speaking during a visit to President Mahama at the Jubilee House on Monday, February 21, she said the UK government is aligned on growth, and sees Ghana as a key partner in this journey and that they will be there as a friend to support so that both economies can grow together

"We have a mutual aspiration for both the UK economy and here in Ghana…only this morning we've seen some of the entrepreneurs you have here and the expansion of jobs that they want to create in the economy,” she noted

She added “I think that we can achieve great things together and the fact that the UK government is aligned on growth, and your government is focused on growth to create good jobs for people”

In response, Mr Mahama emphasised the critical role that foreign investment can play in job creation and economic development.

"And so working together to see how we can bring in more investment, especially considering we are shut out in the international credit markets, to bring in more direct foreign investments to be able to create jobs," Mahama stated.

President Mahama also said the government will make adjustments to the national budget following the USAID funding freeze.

“We have the issue of the freeze in assistance from the United States, we are trying to make our budgetary adjustments to make up for the shortfall of some USD156 million and so it is something that we can adjust the budget to fit” he emphasised.
