After cooling their interest in Manuel Ugarte due to Paris Saint-Germain’s price demands, Manchester United chiefs are frantically scouring the market for cheaper alternatives.

INEOS have reportedly compiled a shortlist of potential No.6 additions, which features the likes of Ederson, Youssouf Fofana and Sander Berge. Sofyan Amrabat could also return to Old Trafford on a permanent deal after his loan spell expired in June.

Excluding Amrabat, Berge is the only contender who boasts Premier League experience – and three seasons of it, at that. The Norweigan international spent 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 in the top flight with Sheffield United before moving to Burnley upon their return to the division in 2023/2024, tallying 66 appearances across that time.

Berge left mulling over Old Trafford switch

The 26-year-old, deemed ‘underrated’ by analyst Statman Dave, is thought to be ‘excited’ by the prospect of a move to the 20-time champions, per The Sun.

United have reportedly tabled their proposal to Berge, which would see his current £60,000-a-week wages increased to £100,000.

Yet, it remains to be seen what kind of fee the Clarets would demand for their midfield maestro. He is contracted to the Lancashire outfit until 2027, putting them firmly in the driving seat of any potential negotiations or fee to represent his integral status.
