Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Egbewole, has congratulated the Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on his appointment as the Sarduana of Ilorin, by the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the University Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, the vice-chancellor, described the appointment as “befitting and well-deserved”.
Egbewole said AbdulRazaq deserves the traditional title conferred on him, considering his excellent personal qualities, numerous contributions, and exemplary impact as a political leader and a distinguished son of Ilorin.
He particularly appreciated the tireless efforts of the governor in ensuring that peace and harmony prevail across Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State, at large, of which the University has been a significant beneficiary.
Egbewole, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities, specifically thanked the government and people of Kwara State for the generous support the University has been enjoying since its establishment about 50 years ago.
The vice chancellor wished the governor a more successful tenure.
The Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, said the governor is most deserving of the prestigious title of the Sardauna Ngeri bestowed on him by the Emir of Ilorin.
Yakubu, while reacting to the news of the conferment in a statement on Sunday, described AbdulRazaq as a replica of the Sardauna of Sokoto, the late Ahmadu Bello, who is reputed for his visionary leadership in Nigeria.
“As the news broke this afternoon of the conferment of the title of Sardauna Ngeri on our ebullient and magnificent Governor, we remember the late Sardauna of Sokoto with whom Mallam AbdulRazaq is having a strike resemblance, especially when one looks at the many giant strides of his administration in the state in the last five years”, the Speaker said in a statement signed by Abdulkadir Yusuf, chief press secretary to the Speaker.
“Gov AbdulRazaq’s visionary leadership, modernization efforts, commitment to education and healthcare, and respect for traditional institutions, among others, stand him out as an illustrious son of the soil. Hence, Mai Martaba’s choice is better described as putting the round peg in a round hole.
“May this new role bring you even greater opportunities to continue to serve and make positive impacts on your community. May your wisdom, integrity, and compassion continue to guide you as you assume this esteemed position.
“On behalf of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Congratulations once again, sir, Sardauna AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq! May Allah bless your endeavours.”
