Former Red Teden Mengi is reportedly being targeted by Bayer Leverkusen for a potential summer swoop.
The Carrington graduate made just two senior appearances for Manchester United before departing in 2023 for Luton Town, having spent 14 years with the club and worked his way through the academy to the first-team.
Mengi, 21, has since overseen an impressive campaign with the Hatters thus far, playing a crucial role at the heart of their defence as they take on their first-ever Premier League stint. He has been granted 1,626 minutes of playing time across 20 outings, 16 of which have come in the league.
His showings have seemingly sparked the attention of Xabi Alonso and co, as The Mirror claims that the Bundesliga leaders’ Head of Emerging Markets, Matthew Green, attempted to scout Mengi during last week’s clash with Sheffield United, however, he was an unused substitute.
It remains to be seen if Green will try again this time out; the Englishman has been named in the starting 11 to take on his former club at home this afternoon in a 4.30pm kick-off.
A sell-on clause was included in the player’s terms upon his Old Trafford exit, so United stand to receive a fee of any potential deal.
