More Details On Chrisean Rock’s Legal Response To James Wright Chanel’s Assault Lawsuit
According to a report published on Monday, October 7, by In Touch Weekly, the outlet obtained court documents asserting that Rock has “denied all allegations” from Chanel’s lawsuit.
More specifically, Rock denies that Chanel sustained “numerous physical injuries… extreme mental anguish and severe emotional distress” from the alleged assault. Additionally, Rock reportedly denied he experienced “physical pain and suffering.”
“as a result of [James’] conduct and actions, [James] is estopped, in whole, or in part, from asserting any of their claims against [Chrisean],” Rock’s filing reportedly reads.
To note, Cornell Law School defines “estop” as “prevent[ing] a party from asserting a claim, right, or argument.” This is reportedly done through a process called “estoppel,” which could prevent “parties from re-litigating any issue which has already been litigated.”
Furthermore, Rock’s filing reportedly notes that Chanel has been “barred” from “recovering any damages against her.” This is reportedly due to his own “conduct, actions and/or omissions.”
Here’s What James Wright Chanel Alleged Went Down
As The Shade Room previously reported, the alleged incident occurred backstage at a Tamar Braxton concert in Los Angeles, California, on November 10, 2023. The following evening, Chanel took to Instagram Live, seemingly alluding to being a victim of assault.
Then, a second man appeared to corroborate Chanel’s claims. The man alleged Rock hit Chanel in the face and chipped his teeth, leaving him with a bloody nose. Furthermore, at the time, Rock called the allegations “false narratives.”
A few days later, Tamar Braxton weighed in on the alleged events, per The Shade Room. The singer appeared to confirm the allegations involving Chanel and Rock by tweeting that Chanel was “at the dentist getting new teeth.”
Subsequently, Chanel confirmed Braxton’s claim by taking to Instagram Live from the dentist’s office.
Then, in February, Chanel reportedly filed a lawsuit against Rock, per The Shade Room. The suit alleged Rock punched him multiple times in the face while wearing rings. Additionally, it asserted that two of Chanel’s teeth had been broken.
At the time, the Los Angeles Times also reported that Chanel filed criminal charges of assault with a deadly weapon and battery against Rock the month prior. Ultimately, Rock responded to the suit by tweeting that Chanel would not receive money from her, per The Shade Room.
Here’s What Chrisean Rock Has Recently Been Up To

At the time, it was reported that Rock had been taken into custody on a felony fugitive warrant stemming from a 2022 drug case in Oklahoma.

On June 17, The Shade Room contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which appeared to confirm Rock was also being held on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. However, the department did not explicitly specify whether the charge originated from Chanel’s criminal case, per The Shade Room.
Ultimately, Rock was ordered to serve 30 days in a Los Angeles jail before being extradited to Oklahoma. In early September, the mother of one was then released from an Oklahoma jail.
Since then, Rock has remained vocal about her plans to walk in “purity” and embrace a “new life.”
