A new report provides an update on the relationship between AEW and Warner Bros. Discovery and the talks between them.
PWInsider recently reported that it was believed that AEW and Warner Bros. Discovery had not yet reached a new deal.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports that the announcement of a new deal is expected to be kept close to the vest. Summer or fall was named as a more likely time for an announcement. Sapp writes that the exclusivity window between the two sides continues into the summer.
Per Sapp, WBD sources had expressed that they had been interested in adding AEW pay-per-views to the Max streaming platform for “quite some time.” These sources noted that the two sides have been in talks about what a deal could look like, and some proposals had been made last year.
Update On AEW/Max
Sapp also writes that these sources noted that nearly every deal WBD does is with Max in mind. This focus has only grown since AEW reached its previous deal.
Per Sapp, any cable deal AEW reaches with WBD would likely include streaming. Additionally, the two sides were complimentary of each other, according to sources.
