Graduates of the 6th Regular Course of the Nigerian Police Academy, Kano, recently commissioned into the Nigeria Police Force and indigenes of Abia State, have been advised to display professionalism and patriotism in the discharge of their duties.

The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, and the founder/leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Mohammed Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, issued this advice to the 15 graduates of Abia origin.

The graduates, led by ASP Ochiabuto Uche Ejike, paid a courtesy visit to Governor Otti on Saturday at his home in Nvosi, Isialangwa South LGA.

Addressing the graduates, Otti described them as ambassadors of Abia State and congratulated them for their successful completion of the programme.

The governor said, “The challenge is for you to now work very hard so that the son of nobody can now become the son of somebody.”

He further encouraged them to strive for excellence, noting that doing the right thing is essential and warning that cutting corners leads nowhere.

He also expressed gratitude to Kwankwaso for his guidance and patriotism toward the country.

In his own charge to the graduates, Kwankwaso, who was in the state to commiserate with Otti over the passing of Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, urged the new police officers to fear God and remain professional.

“I have seen recently how the police detain children, and some of them, when they came to court, were dying. This is unprofessional,” he said.

Meanwhile, he described the late Dr Onu as a bridge-builder.

Responding on behalf of the others, graduate Ejike expressed their excitement that, of the 34 states represented in the course, Otti had received them warmly. He added that Abia State’s reputation has improved since Otti assumed leadership, describing the governor as “a working governor.
