A foundation aimed at fostering greater acceptance and respect among people of different faiths was launched in Accra yesterday.
Dubbed: “AcrossFaith Foundation”, the event held on the theme, “Promoting sustainable interfaith: Peace, unity and education for national development”, brought together representatives of different religious faiths.
The Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation with a mission to promote humanity through diversity and inclusion, aiming for development and universal human coexistence.
Launching the foundation, Sultan Nii Nortey Caesar, President for the Ga-Dangme Muslims Association said in a world that is becoming increasingly divided along religious lines there was a need for interfaith dialogue and understanding.
For him that was why the launch of the foundation and its aim of promoting peace and harmony among people of different faiths was timely especially as the country was going to the polls.
He said the foundation was a brain child of a group of religious leaders from various faith traditions who came together to address the growing intolerance and misunderstanding that exists between different religious communities.
Sultan Caesar entreated the board, executives and members of the foundation to create a safer space within their office and give room for broader conversations and brainstorming of ideas that would ensure peaceful coexistence beyond the 2024 elections.
He urged the board and executives to help the foundation achieve its core mandate and rise to the occasion to tell the truth to the face of people who want to perpetuate violence using the next general elections as a bait
Reverend Benjamin Kusi, the Founder said the foundation was committed to bridging the gaps, breaking down barriers and forging a global community where everyone was valued for his or her unique belief and practice.
For him, the peace among the religions in Ghana was a major factor why Ghana remained the travel destination for many foreigners because it was rare to experience such things even in the neighbouring countries.
The President of Across Faiths Foundation Ghana, Rt Rev Emmanuel Borlabi Bortey stressed the importance of religious tolerance in the country.
He maintained that there is a need for all faiths to come together to work as partners in the development of Ghana.
