Oluwo of Iwo in Osun State, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has called on the federal and state governments to tackle the menace of ritual killing and occultism headlong to stem the tide.

Oba Akanbi, who lamented the increasing incidents of ritual killings and cultism, also demanded that possession of human parts should be punished with the death penalty henceforth.

In a statement signed by his Press Secretary, Alli Ibrahim, obtained in Osogbo on Wednesday, the royal father harped on the need to curtail high quest for money rituals and killings, especially among the youth.

He, therefore, suggested the formation of a special government agency to checkmate the use of human parts for ritual.

The statement read in part, “The government constituted both EFCC and ICPC to check corruption in official settings. A similar institution should also be constituted to checkmate and address corruption in the traditional system such as money rituals and cultism

“The alarming rate of killing innocent souls for money rituals calls for immediate curb. I read it daily on the pages of newspapers and social media.”

He further said that secret societies being promoted by some traditional rulers and elders were aiding cultism among the youth and involvement in ritual killings.

He tasked the government to checkmate the activities of secret cult groups, which according to him, was the first step towards involving in ritual.

He described ritual killings as the clog in the wheel of progress of the Yoruba race, saying his throne was committed to checkmating archaic practices within the race.
