Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma

Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, has reiterated his administration’s resolve to commence the construction of housing estates for low-income earners in Owerri, the capital in 2025.

The Imo State Commissioner for Urban Development and Housing, Hon Bede Eke disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in his office in Owerri.

Eke said Uzodimma had concluded plans to build affordable housing estates in Owerri to ease housing concerns in the state.

The former member of the House of Representatives said, “This year, the Housing m6inistry will be extremely busy because Governor Uzodimma in his budget speech disclosed that he wants to build housing estates.

“We are going to build massive housing estates to foster affordable homes for Imo people, especially the middle-class income earners. I can assure you that we are already working on it and in the coming weeks, the governor will make announcements about it.”

He lamented the attitude of some communities who donate land to the government for development purposes, but turn around to cry foul or encroach after agreements and payments have been made.

Eke said “The issue is that some communities after they announce the donation of land to the government for development purposes, they turn around and start selling the same land to people.

“They forget that they gave it out and that documents have been signed without any caveat that if the project doesn’t commence within a particular time they will claim it back. Some wait till a new government assumes office and then begin to encroach on the said donated land and this is entirely wrong.”

He disclosed that already Uzodimma has commenced reclaiming all acquired government land, adding that it is part of his mandate, saying he was taking his time to do verifications adding that all such lands will be reclaimed.

Furthermore, Eke admonished contractors to always commence work immediately upon mobilisation with funds, saying many people try to play smart by running to the court to claim spurious allegations after collecting money.

He enthused, “Some of these funny people run to court to seek all manner of injunction against the state government because they had embezzled the grant.”

He promised to always put the state first in all his dealings with the public and assured that no private land will be forcefully taken, but maintained that all encroachers will be flushed out.
