Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk is preparing to sign a new lease with his Liverpool team.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has just announced that he could stay at the club beyond this season. The Dutchman is out of contract this summer, but the club hopes he will extend his stay.

Van Dijk, who helped his side to a 2-1 win over Chelsea last weekend, admitted contract negotiations were ongoing. “Discussions are ongoing, we will see what happens in the future”declared the Batavian central defender.

Van Dijk only thinks about Liverpool

“I am totally focused on Liverpool, with the objective of winning the matches in front of us and nothing else. I have no idea what the future holds yet. I can only tell you that discussions have started and that we will see”he added.

Van Dijk (33) arrived at Liverpool in 2018 from Southampton. It then cost the Reds 80 million euros. He has since played 280 games with this team.
