Eric Funderwhite is under fire… And in front of it.
On Thursday, the Vanderpump Villa star took to Instagram to share an up-close-and-personal look at how urgent and out of control the LA fires are on the Pacific Coast Highway… But he did so shirtless. Sigh.
Standing in front of a wall of flames as firetrucks sped by in the background, the 37-year-old noted how “crazy” the situation was and how he could “feel” the heat “from all the way across the street.” In his caption, he wrote:
“We walked through all that chaos looking for people to help and animals to save. We made it all the way to PCH. It wasn’t a pleasant walk through the smoke and flames but we did it because we care about that person, dog, or cat and our city. I wish there were more men and women in this world with courage to help others but most run away scared rather then into the flames to protect and help with selfless love. If you need help let me know. Don’t give up. ”
He really could have said anything — but the fact that he took the disaster as an opportunity to “show off [his] abs” just didn’t sit well with IG users. And they weren’t shy to drag him for it in the comments:
“you’re such, such an attention starved person. grow up”
“Not the time or the place”
“no one else thinks this is…..not the right time to promote himself? That’s sad”
“What a way to call the attention and using. A tragedy to show off abs and body… Disappointing. Have some dignity”
“Naw this ain’t right. If he can’t see it he is very unaware of life.”
“embarrassing!”
“This is so wrong dude….. read the room…”
“nice abs bro!! workout routine tutorial in the Palisades next? keep us updated”
Yeah… There’s a time and a place for thirst traps but we’re not sure if amid a series of unrelenting fires destroying people’s whole lives is necessarily it…
In response to the criticism, Eric claimed he took off his shirt to use as a “mask”:
“To the haters, you have no clue. We were helping and if your animal or loved one was there you would be happy to have someone out there putting [their] self in danger for them. And thank you to all the others who helped in their own way. This is our city and I’m here for it. Period. We walked miles all throughout there all the way to PCH trying to help. So what if I used my shirt for a mask and took it off for a video to inform what was going on. We know we were doing good and that is all that matters. ??”
What do YOU think, Perezcious readers?? Our hearts remain with all those affected.
