Barcelona’s emerging talent, Mikayil Faye, made an immediate impression during his debut for Senegal, delivering a breathtaking long-range goal against Gabon in a 3-0 victory for his team.
The 19-year-old left-footed centre-back got a surprise call-up from Senegal as a replacement for an injured player. This means the defender, who is already a U-17 defender, will not play for his club this Sunday against Cornella in Group 1 of the Primera RFEF.
Faye, playing at the Stade de la Licorne in France, displayed one of his notable skills: the sheer force behind his shots. With a swift strike from his left foot from long way away, he sent the ball hurtling into the net.
Senegal surged ahead 2-0 before halftime, leaving a strong mark as Faye left his mark in style. The youngster was eventually replaced in the 90th minute, making way for Ismail Jakobs.

It is to be noted that Faye who was playing for NK Kustosija in Croatia, caught the attention of Barcelona last summer when they signed him for €2.2 million. The defender signed a four-year contract, committing his future to the team until 2027.
Despite interest from Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund, Faye’s determination won him the deal. The Blaugrana turned down a €9 million offer from OGC Nice during the winter transfer window.
Now, numerous Premier League and Ligue 1 clubs are eyeing him and it is safe to say that his remarkable goal during his debut for Senegal has undoubtedly raised his market value.
This season, while playing for Barça Atletic, the young defender has scored three goals across 2000 minutes, two of which have been headers.
The teenager has trained regularly with the first team under Xavi, but has yet to make his official senior debut.
