Manchester United have opened the scoring against Fenerbahce, with Christian Eriksen getting his fourth goal of the Europa League campaign.

There was a lot of talk about Noussair Mazraoui playing in the number 10 role before the game, but it seems to have worked to good effect as the Moroccan had an influence on the opening goal.

Manuel Ugarte won the ball in a deep position before United broke forward with Joshua Zirkzee finding Alejandro Garnacho out wide on the left.

The ball found Mazraoui inside the box before he laid the ball to Zirkzee, who in turn set up Eriksen who converted with a brilliant strike.

It’s the perfect start for Man United as Christian Eriksen strikes first 🎯

Can Manchester United hold on; Mazraroui to remain as no 10 after role in Eriksen’s goal

Erik ten Hag will be delighted with the 1-0 lead after a stunning goal on the counter-attack.

However, we’ve been in this position before only to throw away the lead.

Take the last Europa League tie as an example when we drew 3-3 with FC Porto, despite leading 2-0 in the first half.

United need to kick on and double their lead. Even at that we’re not fully home and dry.

Mazraoui looked at home in Fenerbahce‘s box, fully composed and effective to help United strike early.

The decision to play him there suddenly looks less bizarre.
