They’re not done. There are all kinds of things happening on any given WWE television show and you never know what you might be seeing. Despite everything advertised, there is always the chance of something special taking place. That was the situation this week at SmackDown, but in this case there was quite a bit happening after the cameras stopped rolling on the TV broadcast.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: On The Clock: Full Night One WWE Draft Results, 11 More Wrestlers Drafted After SmackDown
Following this week’s SmackDown in Cincinnati, Ohio, there were three matches plus a special appearance. As previously mentioned, a title match took place following the show, with the results being available here (contains a future SPOILER). After the match, CM Punk came to the ring to address the crowd, saying his tricep injury is not quite healed yet but it is getting better.
Punk then talked about Pete Rose belonging in the Baseball Hall Of Fame, which brought out the Alpha Academy to interrupt. Chad Gable threatened Punk, who brought out Sheamus to defeat Gable with the Brogue Kick in 5:37. After this, the Awesome Truth defeated the Judgment Day in 7:12 with stereo Attitude Adjustments to retain the World Tag Team Titles to end the night.
It was a busy night. Check out the Punk promo, plus what happened on TV:
Opinion: That was certainly a lot to pack in after the show and I was lucky enough to be in the arena to see it happen. Punk got an amazing reception and it is rather smart to keep him around in front of the fans as he heals up. While Punk has a long time to go before he is fully recovered, he has already burned off three months of his recovery time and he is still fresh in the fans’ eyes. That is an impressive thing to see, and now we are a good step closer to him being ready for his in-ring return.
What do you think of Punk? How should he be used until he is ready to return? Let us know in the comments below.
