Manchester United ended a disappointing season on a high after besting rivals Man City to lift the FA Cup on Saturday. Bruno Fernandes was quick to owe it to the fans in his post-match interview.

The Reds travelled to Wembley with pressure mounting on manager Erik ten Hag after finishing eighth in the Premier League.

While we were fully aware that anything can happen in a final, few people at Wembley could see past a City win because of how much stronger they’ve been to us all season. That wasn’t the case at the national stadium this weekend where United were deserved FA Cup winners for the 13th time.

It is United’s first time winning the FA Cup since 2016.

Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring with a gifted goal as Stefan Ortega and Josko Gvardiol experienced a horrific mix up at the back.

United increased their winning margin to two goals as Kobbie Mainoo, 19, rounded off a perfect team move – straight from the training ground.

Jeremy Doku’s goal made for a nervy finish, but United held on to as Erik ten Hag won his second trophy since becoming manager two years ago.

After the match, an emotional Fernandes was seen with tears in his eyes as he told ITV Sport that the United fans deserved the trophy more than the players.

“They deserve it [the fans] more than us… Today we had to give something back”

“They deserve so much, they probably deserve it even more than us,” Fernandes told ITV Sport.

“We deserve a lot. I can tell you. We didn’t have the season that we wanted but they have been behind us in the worst periods.

“Today we had to give something back.”

And they did!
