Marcus Rashford doubles Manchester United’s lead just before the break.

Southampton have a greater hill to climb in the second half if they are to put points on the board for the first time this season. The Saints are set to lose their fourth consecutive game, with United leading 2-0 after 45 minutes.

Matthijs de Ligt opened the scoring with a stunning header after Southampton missed a penalty.

United made it 2-0 thanks to Marcus Rashford, who will hope his goal can silence his critics for the time being.

Rashford created a yard of space and slotted the ball in the bottom right corner.
