Prior to kick-off at Old Trafford this evening, Gary Neville singled out Manchester United’s most dependable figure for high praise.
Unsurprisingly, the ex-captain opted for the current one; he claimed that Bruno Fernandes had been one constant amidst an ever-fluctuating United set-up since he arrived from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020.
Not many fans would dispute that sentiment, either. There’s no doubt that the Portugal star is one of the most popular figures in M16, and his world-class efforts across the past four years are the primary reason for that.
Fernandes, who just put pen to paper on a three-year contract extension, has scored 79 goals and assisted a further 66 in 233 United appearances.
Neville said of the skipper on Sky Sports Premier League: “There is no doubt over the three or four years he’s the one player that has turned up every single week, always wants the ball, always takes a risk with the pass to try and get it forward.
“Because he plays in a struggling team, it becomes a difficult position for him. He gets frustrated and then loses his temper with his teammates.”
“I think he is maturing as a captain,” the pundit continued. “And there is no doubt that he has been the only signing in the last ten years that has been a real success.”
