As has been the case for every Manchester United fan, it’s been difficult for Sir Alex Ferguson to follow how the team have fared following his tenure.
Unless you’re a wildly hopeful optimist, it’s pretty much safe to say the Red Devils won’t be getting their hands on the Premier League title this year, given that they currently sit 13th-placed after six matches played.
United haven’t added to their remarkable record of 20 league titles since Ferguson was at the reins, and while clubs have certainly been made to wait longer (hint: Arsenal), you’d expect it’ll be some time until a fourth Champions League is added to the cabinet at Old Trafford.
Last season’s eighth-placed finish meant the side missed out on qualification for Europe’s elite competition this term. However, they did secure a spot in the Europa League thanks to May’s FA Cup triumph over Manchester City – and Sir Alex was spotted keeping tabs on how the Reds got on last night.
A tumultuous tie at the Estadio de Dragao saw United squander a two-goal lead to FC Porto in under 10 minutes. Five minutes after the interval, the Portuguese outfit led 3-2 through prolific frontman Samu Omorodion bagging his second of the night.
It looked all but nailed on that United would be heading back to Manchester with nothing to show for the clash until Harry Maguire headed home from a set-piece late on in injury-time to rescue a crucial point for Erik ten Hag.
While in attendance at Rangers’ UEL defeat to Lyon, Sir Alex was spotted by TNT Sports checking his phone and reacting to the United score. Take a look below:
