A Sporting Lisbon fan was reduced to tears after a reporter revealed Ruben Amorim would be leaving to join Manchester United.
This proves Amorim was a popular figure at the Portuguese club, where he delivered their first league title for 19 years and won it again last season.
Sporting have continued those high standards this season with a 100 per cent record in nine matches.
Amorim has emerged as the favourite to take over at Old Trafford following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag on Monday.
However, with United in Carabao Cup action on Wednesday, Ruud van Nistelrooy will step in as caretaker manager.
The news of Amorim’s departure has not gone down too well in Lisbon, where one Sporting fan could only muster a few words when asked for his thoughts on the development. He broke down in tears before clasping his hand over his mouth at the thought of losing their manager.

United have considered many candidates before deciding Amorim is the man to take the team forward and it is understood that they are willing to pay his £8.3m release clause.
Supporters attended what could have been his final Sporting match last night at the Jose Alvalade Stadium as they beat Nacional.
Ruben Amorim to have a quick impact at Manchester United?
Photo by Octavio Passos/Getty ImagesWe can only hope so after such a poor start to the season because a big pick up is needed.
Not just in performance levels, but results too because that is how he’ll be judged over time.
Amorim responded well to questions about his future without getting caught up in any traps laid by the English press pack that travelled to Lisbon. Gary Cotterill was making his face known to the incoming United manager and we can be sure he’ll be doorstepping him soon.
