Nigerian singer Oludipe David, popularly known as Spyro, has revealed that he charges N20 million to perform at events in Nigeria.
In an interview with Echo Room, which went viral on Wednesday, the Who’s Your Guy hitmaker disclosed that his disagreement with music artist manager Ubi Franklin stemmed from payment issues for a past performance.
Spyro recounted that the incident occurred during fellow musician Iyanya’s birthday celebration, where Ubi informed him that Davido wanted him to perform and would pay $5,000.
According to him, “Davido was meant to perform at Iyanya’s birthday, and Ubi came to inform me that Davido wanted us to perform as well and that we would be paid $5,000 each.
“I called him to the side and said, ‘Bro, I don’t charge $5,000. The least I charge in Nigerian currency is ₦20 million.’
“On getting there, Davido was on stage. He came down from the stage, and I was immediately called up.”
Despite the disagreement, Spyro explained that he eventually performed at the event due to the presence of dignitaries, but he later confronted Ubi to resolve the payment issue.
“I could not decline at that moment because there were many dignitaries present, and afterwards, I had to sort it out with Ubi regarding my pay,” he stated.
