This Wednesday, Patrick Vieira was officially named coach of Genoa. The 48-year-old technician, who has held a position as a sports consultant on DAZN since the start of the season, therefore replaces Alberto Gilardino on the bench of the Italian club.
In the capital of Liguria, the 1998 world champion will meet two players who played for Olympique de Marseille last season: Vitinha and Ruslan Malinovsky. He will also once again cross paths with Mario Balotelli, who played under him at OGC Nice during the 2018-2019 financial year.
Vieira-Balotelli, the reunion will be hot
The reunion between the two men could be stormy. “I expected him to behave like a leader, like an example, but he wasn’t able to do that. The big mistake he and I made was that we thought we could work together.” declared Patrick Vieira on Canal+ in April 2019.
A few years later, “Super Mario” responded to him in the columns of So Foot. “The problem was that Vieira’s way of playing didn’t suit me. I got along well with him, but sportingly I didn’t agree. If I hadn’t had these problems with him, I would never have left Nice.”revealed the 34-year-old striker, who has only played two matches with Genoa this season.
