Vince McMahon isn’t shying away from the spotlight after settling a $1.7 million case with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Shortly after news broke of the settlement, McMahon took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the years-long investigation and the outcome.

In a bold statement, McMahon declared, “The case is closed. Today ends nearly three years of investigation by different governmental agencies. There has been a great deal of speculation about what exactly the government was investigating and what the outcome would be. As today’s resolution shows, much of that speculation was misguided and misleading.”

McMahon went on to downplay the allegations, adding, “In the end, there was never anything more to this than minor accounting errors with regard to some personal payments that I made several years ago while I was CEO of WWE. I’m thrilled that I can now put all this behind me.”

The settlement resolves allegations that McMahon failed to disclose payments tied to sexual assault claims, including $3 million to a former WWE employee and $7.5 million to a female independent contractor. The SEC also found that McMahon bypassed WWE’s internal accounting controls, leading to inaccuracies in financial reports for 2018 and 2021. However, McMahon has neither admitted nor denied the claims as part of the agreement.

The Twitter post is classic McMahon—confident and unapologetic. While the settlement includes a $400,000 penalty and a reimbursement of $1.33 million to WWE, McMahon’s focus remains on clearing his name in the court of public opinion. His assertion that the case amounted to “minor accounting errors” contrasts with the SEC’s findings, which detailed a significant misrepresentation of WWE’s financial health.

This isn’t the first time McMahon has faced controversy. In 2022, reports revealed he had paid $12 million over 16 years to silence allegations of sexual misconduct. The SEC settlement adds to the list of scandals that have defined his tumultuous tenure at the helm of WWE.

As McMahon attempts to move forward, fans and critics alike are left debating his legacy. Is this the final chapter in his legal troubles, or just another page in the book of Vince McMahon?
