Janel Grant’s legal team is seeking to move forward in her case against Vince McMahon, following significant updates tied to his recent Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) fines.
According to a motion filed on Monday in federal district court in Connecticut, Grant’s attorneys identified her as the individual behind one of the NDAs McMahon failed to disclose properly, which led to his $400,000 fine and over $1 million in restitution to WWE.
The NDA in question, signed in 2022, is one of two that McMahon was penalized for. The other reportedly involved a former WWE contractor or wrestler. Grant’s legal counsel is now pushing for a status conference to address several key developments, including motions for arbitration under the NDA agreement, a new judge, and the impact of the SEC ruling.
In the motion, Grant’s attorneys requested clarity on the case’s next steps, stating, “It is clear that the Court’s guidance is needed to reach consensus on a schedule to move this litigation forward.”
Ann Callis, Grant’s attorney, highlighted the significance of the SEC findings, stating, “In light of the SEC’s charges proving that the NDA Vince McMahon coerced Ms. Grant into signing violates the law, Ms. Grant has renewed her request for an updated scheduling conference to ensure these new developments are reflected in her complaint and establish a clear schedule to move her case forward. Ms. Grant deserves the opportunity to have her day in court and hold her abusers accountable.”
Meanwhile, the federal criminal investigation into McMahon remains active. A representative for Grant confirmed that federal investigators informed her counsel in December that the probe is ongoing, although the Southern District of New York declined to provide further comment.
