Disappointed by Vincent Labrune’s mandate, Joseph Oughourlian and Waldemar Kita have withdrawn their candidacy for the position on the LFP board of directors.
The election for the presidency of the LFP will take place on Tuesday, September 10, and while Vincent Labrune is still the favorite to succeed himself, the current leader of the League has lost two supporters. Joseph Oughourlian and Waldemar Kita have in fact decided to withdraw their candidacy for a seat on the board of directors, according to L’Equipe.
The president of FC Nantes has not communicated on this subject, but the boss of RC Lens explained the motivations of his gesture in a post on LinkedIn. Joseph Oughourlian thus denounces “a sham election”and attacks Labrune’s record on the TV rights issue, blaming him for his falling out with Canal+. “We are being told about cutting the costs of the LFP without even mentioning the lunar emoluments of its leaders…”also denounces the Artois leader, who nevertheless admits some successes in Labrune, such as the CVC contract (although very unpopular).
Will these withdrawals weigh down Vincent Labrune in his race for the presidency of the LFP? A priori, no. “I find it a bit regrettable even if I understand what they want to do, even believes Daniel Riolo, who would have liked to see more rebellious presidents. If Oughourlian and Kita throw in the towel when they could have been opponents on the field, I find it a bit of a shame.”
