Loaned to Genoa until the end of the season, Vitinha never really convinced in Marseille. What about its future?

Vitinha at OM is an arrival with great fanfare in the winter of 2023, with a record transfer of 32 million euros (bonus included) from Braga, promises and a mediocre performance unfortunately for his first six months in France under the orders of Igor Tudor: two goals in 14 matches played. This season under the leadership of Marcelino then Gennaro Gattuso, the person concerned had a very average first part of the season, with four goals in 24 appearances in all competitions. A disappointing record which pushed the Olympians to find a way out for him this winter.

It is on loan to Genoa, until the end of the season and with a purchase option of 25 million euros for the benefit of the Italians that Vitinha is supposed to relaunch his career and finally confirm all the potential that president Pablo Longoria and his former deputy Javier Ribalta saw in him. Not easy, especially since the Portuguese only plays a little in Liguria: six ends of matches and 180 minutes played in just two and a half months, for one goal – certainly a nice one – scored.

Genoa convinced?

However, Vitinha assures that he has found a family in Serie A. “ I felt that Genoa could be the right choice to find myself and that's what happened. I'm going through the most difficult period of my life, but I'm also coping with it thanks to the help of the club. There are still nine matches left, but I want to return the favor to Genoasays the international Lusitanian Hopes. In Genoa, I found the real Vitinha but the choice does not depend on me. At the end of the season, the two clubs will meet and discuss my future because the loan will be until June. »

To hear him say, Vitinha therefore wants to stay in Genoa for the long term, far from Marseille in any case. Recently relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb, Marco Ottolino, the sporting director of Rossoblu, spoke as follows about the 24-year-old striker: “ In January we recruited players of the future to whom we immediately explained what Genoa is and what it means to wear the Genoa jersey. We are happy with what Vitinha is doing, with the way he has positioned himself. We're happy with how this fits into reality, so let's see what happens between now and the end of the season. » According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Genoa would seriously consider exercising the option to purchase Vitinha. It remains to be seen at what price.
