The Volta Member of the Council of State, Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, has made a passionate appeal to Assembly members in the region to grant a swift and unanimous confirmation to President John Dramani Mahama’s newly nominated Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
In a statement, Mr Tanko underscored the urgency of local governance, stressing that any delay in confirming the nominees would only stall crucial interventions needed to stabilise the economy and accelerate development.
With Ghana facing pressing economic challenges, he emphasised that the Mahama administration requires a fully functional leadership at all levels to implement policies effectively.

He reminded them that their appointment is not merely a position of privilege but a responsibility to serve with integrity and dedication, ensuring tangible improvements in the lives of the people of the Volta Region.
Acknowledging those who were not selected, Mr Tanko reassured them that their contributions remain invaluable to the broader national development agenda.
"Ghana’s transformation under President Mahama is a journey, not a race," he remarked, urging unity among party members and stakeholders.
Crucially, he cautioned against internal divisions and any attempts to derail the confirmation process.
He warned that opposition or "No" campaigns would not only weaken the president’s authority but also hinder much-needed progress in the region.
Instead, he called for unwavering support and loyalty to both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Mahama-led administration.
“For the sake of Ghana’s economy, I implore all Assembly members in the Volta Region to give President Mahama’s MMDCEs a one-touch victory,” Mr Tanko stated.
“The economic challenges we face demand immediate action, and any delay in approving these nominees will only slow down the government’s ability to respond decisively.”
He urged Assemblymembers to rise above personal and political considerations and demonstrate true patriotism by endorsing the nominees without hesitation.
“This is not the time for hesitation or discord. Our collective focus should be on securing the success of President Mahama and the NDC, ensuring that Ghana moves forward with strong, competent leadership at every level,” he added.
