The Vice Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, Mr David Quaye Annan, has urged persons chosen to serve their country as volunteers to prioritise community-driven projects in order to enhance livelihoods and strengthen local capacities.

This, he explained, was the only way volunteers could contribute to the development individuals and the country as a whole.

Mr Annan made the call during the swearing-in ceremony for CorpsAfrica, Ghana’s third cohort of volunteers in Accra yesterday.

The ceremony marked the beginning of a year-long commitment for 44 young African graduates, consisting of 26 women and 18 men, including six Exchange Volunteers from various African nations.

CorpsAfrica, a non-profit organisation, modeled after the Peace Corps, recruits and trains young Africans to volunteer services in underserved communities, focusing on empowering people to lead community-driven development and also foster cross-cultural collaboration.

Mr Annan emphasised the importance of small-scale, high-impact initiatives, and charging the new volunteers to engage actively with rural communities throughout Ghana.

Furthermore, he also advised the volunteers to serve and take up the responsibility of empowering communities through small-scale and high-impact initiatives

After completing an intensive six-week Pre-Service Training (PST), the volunteers were equipped to implement community-led development initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable change.

At the ceremony, each volun

teer took an oath to collaborate with local population, address pressing needs and empower communities through impactful projects.

The event drew a distinguished audience, including government officials, international organisation representatives, ambassadors, and board members.

Since its inception in 2013, CorpsAfrica has expanded its mission to 10 countries across Africa: Morocco, Senegal, Malawi, Rwanda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Gambia, Uganda, and South Africa.

The organisation continues to reinforce its commitment to youth empowerment and community development across Africa, playing a crucial role in connecting rural communities with essential resources and opportunities for development.
