EXCLUSIVE: In a highly competitive situation, Warner Bros. has landed a deal with writer/director/producer Ryan Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan for a new untitled movie, based on an original script by Coogler.
The project reunites Coogler and Jordan who have collaborated on the Creed and Black Panther franchises, and first made their mark together on the critically acclaimed Fruitvale Station. It also marks the second project of Coogler and Jordan’s that De Luca and Abdy have championed, following their greenlight of Creed III during their time at MGM. Coogler will produce alongside Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian through their production company Proximity Media with Rebecca Cho executive producing for the company.
Coogler is repped by WME, Charles King at M88 and attorney Jonathan Gardner. Jordan is repped by WME and Phil Sun at M88.
The De Luca and Abdy lead film division at Warner Bros. Discovery continues to build out an impressive slate of new projects as they carve a path for an array of filmmakers to make their home with the studio. Recent projects announced include Paul Greengrass’s Drowning, based on the bestselling book, Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn and Regina Hall and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s sophomore feature effort starring Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Annette Bening, Penelope Cruz and Peter Sarsgaard. Recent deals also include a strategic partnership with Tom Cruise and an overall deal with filmmaker Jon Chu.
