 6 Victims Identified as Ice Skating Club of Boston Members, Including 2 Teen Skaters

The Skating Club of Boston has confirmed that 2 teenage ice skaters, two of their mothers, and two of their coaches passed away in the Washington, DC plane collision that took place on Wednesday (January 29). This news comes just hours after it was confirmed that several U.S. Skating members were on board the aircraft.

CEO Doug Zeghibe shared that the victims are 16-year-old skaters Spencer Lane and Jinna Han, their respective mothers, Christine Lane and Jin Han, and coaches Vadim Naumov and Evengenia Shishkova. They were all killed when the American Airlines flight they were on collided with a US Military helicopter.

“Six is a horrific number for us. But we’re fortunate and grateful it wasn’t more than six. This will have long, reaching impacts for our skating community,” Doug said.

“It’s a close, tight bond. I think for all of us, we have lost family,” he said, adding that Spencer was “rocketing to the top of the sport.”

“I don’t think we’re ever going to forget them. That is for certain. How we commemorate them here we haven’t gotten to that point to discuss, but we certainly will. Just definitely very important and well loved members of our community,” he continued.

Our thoughts are with the friends, family and loved ones of those on board the airplane and helicopter.
