Having helped Spain reach the finals of the Olympics on the back of his goalscoring displays, Barcelona midfield sensation Fermin Lopez has lit up the stage at the biggest stage today.

The 21-year-old rising star had already scored four goals in five games thus far for Spain at the Olympics, which included crucial strikes in the quarter-finals and the semi-finals.

Now, playing France in the finals, Fermin has stood up once again at a moment when Spain needed him the most.

Indeed, La Roja fell behind just 11 minutes into the game and Fermin took it upon himself to drag his team back into the contest as he made it 1-1 in the 18th minute.

The La Masia graduate was played in by Alex Baena and he slotted the ball into the bottom corner with a tidy finish to equalise.

Fermin, however, was not done yet. Seven minutes later, the Barcelona and Spain ace scored his second goal of the game to complete a turnaround and put his team in front from being behind.

Abel Ruiz saw an effort saved by the France goalkeeper, who was unable to stop the ball from falling into Fermin’s path for a simple rebound tap-in.

Minutes later, Spain scored a third through Baena to leave the hosts shell-shocked and take a step closer towards the gold medal.

Fermin’s brace means that he has now scored six goals in six matches at the Olympics and with plenty of time left, a hat-trick in the finals is very much on the cards.
