Monday night was one to remember for FC Barcelona teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal as he became the youngest-ever recipient of the Kopa Trophy during the 2024 Ballon d’Or gala.
On top of that, the 17-year-old gem also secured an eighth-place finish in the Ballon d’Or rankings for 2024, becoming the youngest footballer to crack the top ten.
More individual honours await the youngster, who is the favourite to win the Golden Boy Award later this year.
Lamine backs Cubarsi for the Kopa Trophy next year
On his way to winning the Kopa Trophy, Lamine Yamal beat a plethora of exciting young talents like Kobbie Mainoo, Warren Zaire-Emery, Arda Guler, and his Barcelona teammate Pau Cubarsi as well.
After receiving his award, Yamal, in an interaction with Cubarsi, claimed that the centre-back would win the prestigious trophy next year.
In a clip shared by Barcelona on their social media, Yamal can be seen telling Cubarsi: “Next year, you will win it,” before he hands over his trophy to his fellow La Masia graduate.
Like Yamal, Cubarsi too enjoyed a breakthrough season with Barça in 2023/24 and has only gone on to cement his place in the starting XI over the past 11 months or so.
Now, a permanent fixture in defence under new manager Hansi Flick, Cubarsi has been exceptional this season and if he continues in the same vein of form, it would not be a surprise to see Yamal’s prediction about his teammate come true in 2025.
