FC Barcelona officially announced a little while ago that key defender and captain Ronald Araujo has signed a new contract with the club.
The Uruguayan international’s previous deal was set to expire in less than 18 months and amid speculation about his future, the 25-year-old has ended up renewing his contract.
Araujo’s new extension, signed earlier today, will tie him down to Barcelona until the summer of 2031.
Araujo sends a message to fans after renewal
Following his contract signing today, Araujo has spoken out for the first time, sending a short and sweet message to the Barcelona fans.
“Hi Culers! Very happy to renew, living a dream. Thank you for the support. Let’s hope for many more years together,” he said.

— FC Barcelona (@FCBarcelona) January 23, 2025It must be remembered that only a couple of weeks ago, Araujo appeared to be on his way out of Barcelona, with Juventus pushing hard to secure his signing in the ongoing winter transfer window.
But Barcelona sporting director Deco managed to convince the defensive heavyweight to not only continue at the club but also sign a new contract until the summer of 2031.
Having spent the first half of the season out injured, Araujo has been back in action only this month and has showed signs of good form, especially in the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid.
