IMG Credit: WWEHand it over. Titles are some of the most important things in all of wrestling as they identify the top stars in any promotion. It can be a huge deal when someone gets a major win and takes a championship from a top star. That is what we saw again this week, as a former champion defeated a monster to win a new championship for the first time in something of an upset.

This week’s NXT saw Tony D’Angelo defeat Oba Femi to become the new North American Champion for the first time. The match was a rematch from No Mercy when Femi defeated D’Angelo, resulting in D’Angelo and his Family training for the rematch. The loss ends Femi’s record longest reign as champion at 273 days. It also marks Femi’s first loss on NXT television.
This was a fight. Check out the title match, the fallout, and how we got here:
Opinion: I was a bit surprised that Femi actually lost as he had been nothing short of a monster since his debut in NXT. His title reign felt like it could have gone on for a lot longer but instead he lost clean here. D’Angelo winning is not a bad thing at all, but I wasn’t expecting this to happen. I’m not sure what is next for Femi, as he could stick around NXT and move up or just head to the main roster now, as he’s that kind of a monster.
