Watchmen star Malin Åkerman is to host this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
Åkerman will lead proceedings in Malmö, Sweden on May 11 along with the semi finals in the week leading up to the big event.
She will host alongside Swedish Petra Mede, who is taking the reins of the annual singing competition for the third time.
Akerman is making her Eurovision presenting debut. Born in Stockholm and raised in Canada, she is one of Sweden’s best known actors, having starred in the likes of Zack Snyder’s Watchmen movie, Entourage and Rock of Ages.
“I can’t really describe my feelings about this,” said Åkerman. “I am very excited and a little nervous, but in a positive way. I have always liked Eurovision and to be a part of this fantastic show together with Petra is a dream come true. Additionally, Petra is one of the funniest women I’ve ever met.”
This year’s 68th Eurovision is returning to the convention of the winners hosting the following year’s contest, with Swedish popstar Loreen having won last year for her song Tattoo. Last year’s contest was hosted in the UK even though Ukraine had won in 2022 due to the ongoing war. A Melodifestivalen kicked off on Saturday across six Swedish cities to find the Swedish entrant for this year.
