Barcelona kept up the pressure on Real Madrid in the La Liga title race as they secured a narrow 1-0 win over Cadiz on Saturday night.
A first-half golazo from Joao Felix was enough for Barcelona to bag all three points at Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla, which the team will take after all the changes that Xavi Hernandez made for the game.
The alterations saw players like Fermin Lopez, Marcos Alonso, and Oriol Romeu, among others, get an opportunity in the starting lineup and the trio contributed to the victory.
Fermin claims Barcelona are a stronger team now
Speaking after the game, midfield talent Fermin Lopez stressed how the victory was a team effort while also stating that Barcelona are a stronger team now than before.
“This is a team victory. Everyone that plays is giving their best version,” said Fermin.
“We’re doing things well, we are a stronger team now, and we hope to extend this dynamic.”
Talking about the victory over Cadiz, Fermin highlighted how this was never going to be an easy game, saying:
“This is a good win. We suffered a little. Some people think it’s easy because Cadiz are not in the best position in the league, but remember that this match comes between both legs against Paris. Cadiz are fighting relegation and they’re always tough.”
On Joao Felix’s wonder-goal, Fermin said: “We know the quality that Joao has, we won because of his wonderful goal.”
Alonso and Romeu open up after win
Marcos Alonso made his first start after nearly five months and admitted it was a nice feeling to get back on the pitch and help the team win.
“I’m happy to be back. It’s been a long time. We’re finishing the season well. We have to achieve our goal, which is to win titles,” he remarked.
“This was an opportunity for me to play and demonstrate. Let’s see if I can have more playing time now.”
On the win against Cadiz, Alonso added: “We’re very happy with the win. Cadiz are risking their lives, but we knew how to suffer.
“This match was a trap, right in between the Champions League clash and just before El Clasico. Three very important points.”
Oriol Romeu was another player who got a rare opportunity in the starting XI and was happy to help the team to a win.
“I’m always ready to come on and help the team,” said Romeu.
Looking forward to Tuesday’s game against PSG, he added: “We’re very solid defensively. On Tuesday we play a final.”
On the Clasico next week, Romeu commented: “Next week we have the chance to cut points against Madrid.”
