It’s been quite the summer already for both Arsenal and Man United, with the Red Devils especially doing some brisk business in the transfer window.

With less than a fortnight left to go until every team’s squad is set for at least the next few months, the last few days could prove to be incredibly busy, especially if certain positions still need to be filled.

Having a striker that’s a virtual guarantee of goals, particularly if they’re value for money, are hard to come by, though both the Gunners and the Red Devils, as well as Premier League rivals, Chelsea, were reported to be interested in Brentford’s Ivan Toney according to The Times (subscription required).

Perhaps Toney’s lack of output – just four goals since he returned from his ban per WhoScored – as well as a reported £60m fee is what’s seen the English top-flight trio turn their backs on the England international.

Ivan Toney to the Saudi Pro League?

Considering Brentford wanted £100m for him at the start of the year (Sky Sports), his fee could be considered to be a bargain, though there don’t appear to be any takers domestically which has limited Toney’s options.

Now The Times are reporting that Saudi Pro League club, Al Ahli, are confident of landing the player before the end of the window.

Brentford manager, Thomas Frank, appeared to concede that Toney would be on his way when he was quoted by The Times as saying; “It’s a little bit similar to last season where we had enough in the offensive players, plus we have Igor coming back. We are confident that we should be fine with what we’ve got now.”

It’s quite the comedown for Toney, moving to the 68th best league in the world (Team Form), given that he’s still only 28 years of age, but such is the nature of football these days, that beggars can’t be choosers.
