Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran has been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season.
The player’s agent has now confirmed that Chelsea are keen on securing the services of the 20-year-old South American forward, and it will be interesting to see whether they submit an official proposal to Aston Villa in the summer.
“The interest has always been there. The fact that Pochettino continues or leaves the club [shouldn’t affect], the one who want him in the end is the club,” Herrera explained to El VBar Caracol.
“He is a player that if they change coach or not, we will see what happens, but there has always been interest. Let’s see how we can handle it and make sure Aston Villa are ready.”
The West Midlands club might want to sell a talented young player like him, but they have not been able to provide him with regular opportunities and it remains to be seen whether the player decides to push for an exit.
Chelsea need more quality and depth in the attack. Nicolas Jackson has not been able to live up to the expectations and the Blues need more firepower. The 20-year-old Colombian could prove to be a quality long-term acquisition for Chelsea. They might be able to offer him more opportunities compared to Aston Villa as well.
Duran is unlikely to start ahead of Ollie Watkins at the West Midlands club any time soon. However, he might fancy his chances of dislodging Jackson from the starting lineup. The young attacker has six goals in all competitions despite limited opportunities and he is likely to improve further with regular game time and coaching.
The 20-year-old could develop into a key player for Chelsea in the coming seasons.

Meanwhile, the Blues have parted ways with manager Mauricio Pochettino and it will be interesting to see who comes in to replace him. The new manager could play a key role in the transfer as well. Although there is no doubt that Chelsea need to bring in a quality striker, the new manager might have other preferences.
Chelsea will have to wait for the managerial appointment before making moves in the transfer market.
