The Christ Reminders New Church at Odorkor over the weekend presented assorted items worth GH¢10,000 to the Weija Leprosarium in Accra.
The items include rice, gari, cooking oil, maize, toiletries roll, disinfectant, liquid soap, bottle water, sachet water and sugar.
In addition, the church also presented an amount of GH¢2,000 to the inmates to assist in their upkeep.
Presenting the items, a Senior Pastor of the church, Frederick Koi Apraku, said the church as part of its 50th anniversary celebration decided to support inmates of the Weija Leprosarium.
He said the church was touched by the appeal made by Reverend Father Andrew Campbell and other religious organisations to come to the aid of the Leprosarium, since the government alone could not cater for them.
Pastor Apraku explained that it was an obligation for Christians to help the poor, the needy and the less-privileged in society.
He entreated Christians to support the Leprosarium to bring smile on the faces of the inmates.
Pastor Apraku said leprosy was not a communicable disease, adding “you will not be infected with leprosy when you associate yourself or touch a person who has the disease.”
A Prefect at the Leprosarium, John Ampaw, who received the items thanked the church for the kind gesture and prayed for God to bless the church and replenish all that they had spent on the Leprosarium.
Mr Ampaw appealed to corporate organisations and individuals to come to the aid of the Leprosarium.
The National Service Person at the Home, Ms Tornyi Naomi, said the Weija Leprosarium currently caters for 27 inmates.
She expressed gratitude to the church and said the donation would go a long to help for the upkeep of the inmates.
