‘Welcome To Derry’ Writer Jason Fuchs To Pen Feature Adaptation Of Kazu Kibushi’s ‘Amulet’ Grahic Novel Series For Netflix, 21 Laps Producing

EXCLUSIVE: After landing the rights to the popular Kazu Kibuishi graphic novel series Amulet, Netflix has now begun development on a feature film adaptation and set Jason Fuchs to co-write the script with Kibuishi. Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen and Dan Levine will produce for 21 Laps with Becca Edelman of 21 Laps overseeing. Kibuishi will exec produce.

The series follows a young woman who discovers a magical amulet that belonged to her great-grandfather and uses it to enter a fantastical new world. The series has sold more than 7 million copies in the US and Canada and has been translated into 23 languages worldwide. Amulet: Waverider is the ninth and final book in the Amulet series. Book 9 was released on February 6, 2024, becoming the eighth consecutive #1 New York Times Best Seller in the Amulet series.

For 21 Laps, this has been a 16 year journey as the original book published in 2008 and it took a decade of courting to get the rights.

Fuchs recently wrapped production on HBO’s It prequel series Welcome To Derry, where he not only penned the pilot but served as a co-showrunner of the series. Exec produced by Fuchs and Andy And Barbara Muschietti, who produced the films with Andy directing both. The series is one HBO’s most highly-anticipated series set to premiere in 2025.
