Lisandro Martinez broke his silence on his latest injury setback with an emotional statement shared on his social media pages on Monday.
Yesterday, it was confirmed that the Manchester United stalwart would be sidelined for around eight weeks after suffering a sprain to the medial collateral ligament in his right knee. He sustained the issue during the side’s 3-0 win over West Ham United on Sunday and was withdrawn around the 70th-minute mark after being unable to continue.
The news comes as a devastating blow to both the club and Martinez, who had only just returned from a four-month spell out of action while he recovered from a re-aggravation of the metatarsal fracture that ended his 2022/2023 campaign prematurely.
Scheduled to return around the beginning of April, the 26-year-old is expected to be absent for approximately eight fixtures and will have missed the majority of the season.
Martinez’s rallying message to supporters
Martinez shared a message to the Old Trafford faithful last night, writing: “I want to give a heartfelt thanks for the great support I’ve received and to reassure you that I’ll soon be back out there, and we’ll fight together. Always united!“
On Instagram, his current and former teammates were quick to send their support in the comment section.
