West Ham United are reportedly fearful of losing star player Lucas Paqueta this summer amid interest from Flamengo.

The Brazilian has been a key performer for the Hammers during his time at the club, but there’s also the unavoidable issue of his potential suspension over alleged betting offences.

Paqueta had previously been linked with Manchester City and other big clubs, but potential action from the Premier League and Football Association here in England could mean that a move to Brazil now makes the most sense for the former Lyon man.

Paqueta’s hearing is not scheduled for a few more months, meaning he could still have a role to play for Julen Lopetegui’s side next season, but it seems signs are pointing more towards an exit this summer.

West Ham’s new manager Lopetegui has spoken out in support of Paqueta, and it seems the club would ideally like him to stay, but it’s perhaps not too surprising that he’s now keen to pursue a new challenge and escape the media attention here.

Brazilian journalist Vene Casagrande spoke out about his understanding of Paqueta’s situation, saying: “West Ham has informed Flamengo and other clubs interested in Paqueta that it does not want to negotiate the midfielder, either on loan or permanently.

“The player, on the other hand, will try to assert his will.”
