West Ham are in search of a new striker this month and are in talks over moves for RB Leipzig’s Andre Silva and Ajax’s Brian Brobbey.

The Hammers have struggled for goals so far this season, scoring 27 in 22 games and injury problems up front are causing manager Graham Potter further headaches.

Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug are all out and Potters options in attack have become very limited.

Sky Sports Germany reports that ‘advanced talks are underway’ with Silva, who is now near the top of West Ham’s list of transfer targets.

The 29-year-old has not made a single Bundesliga start this season, with just eight league appearances, all coming from the substitutes’ bench and producing just one goal.

The Portugal international spent last season on loan at Real Sociedad where he scored three goals in 19 La Liga outings.

The report states that no agreement has been reached with RB Leipzig as yet, but negotiations continue, with a loan move a possibility.

Talks are also ongoing with Ajax over Brobbey, although the Hammers were interested in a loan move and the Dutch side do not want to do that deal.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that it must be a permanent move, or a loan with an obligation to buy and negotiations continue.

The 22-year-old scored 18 Eredivisie goals for Ajax last season but has been struggling this campaign, netting just once in 17 league appearances.

Speaking earlier this month, Potter suggested January signings were unlikely, but that appears to have changed.

‘In every window there’s always a responsibility for the club to look and to see if there’s anything that can help us, whether that’s short-term, medium-term, long-term,’ he said.

‘The January window is not the most easy of windows, it can be complicated. So, I have no expectations in terms of that.

‘It’s more that my focus is on the team that we’ve got, the players that we’ve got, how I can try to help them. And then at the same time, always be aware of opportunities that can come.’
