Manchester City will look to go top of the Premier League when they host Everton despite their 115 FFP charges still looming over their heads.

The defending three-time champions' latest game is particularly poignant, with the Toffees already punished for breaching Profit and Sustainability rules.

talkSPORT understands Everton will find out if their appeal against their ten-point deduction is successful in the middle of February.

The Merseysiders could be deducted more points for a different breach and fans have already been protesting the club's treatment.

Tony Bellew launched a fiery rant about the Premier League live on talkSPORT, and Everton boss Sean Dyche has admitted there is general bewilderment as to why City's extensive allegations haven't been addressed.

“Just like everyone else, we are all wondering what makes one rule for one and one rule for the other. I think that’s the only thing,” said Dyche.

“I don’t know the ins and outs for every reason, but I think we are all asking that. The people in the street are asking: ‘Why is it particularly Everton?’

“I don’t know what the exact number is, but they reference over 100 charges [for City]. I don’t know the implications of that either. I don’t know the details of the charges but you go: ‘Well, we have one.’

“You just go with common sense, I’m not talking about the rules. I’m not questioning Man City or whether they’ve done stuff or not done stuff. The point is it is certainly a long time. That story has been going round for a while now about all these charges. I don’t know the variants of what the charges are.”

What is the latest on Man City's FFP case?

In February 2023, City were charged with breaching 115 Financial Fair Play rules over an eight-year period.

Their alleged breaches have coincided with the club blossoming into the dominant force of English football from the 2010/11 and 2017/18 football seasons.

There had been talk that City could have their Premier League titles stripped during this period - having won the league in 2012, 2014 and 2018 - while former City financial adviser Stefan Borson even floated the distinct possibility of relegation if they're found guilty.

The wide-ranging offences were denied by City, who said in a statement that they 'look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all'.

Yet over a year later, against the backdrop of Everton's punishment, there is still no public date for the hearing on City's allegations.

Premier League CEO Richard Masters confirmed in January 2024 that there is a date set, but he stopped short of revealing when it is.

Why is Everton's case different?

In short, the case around Man City is far more complex and time-consuming.

Everton's first charge for overstepping PSR was a single breach in 2021-22, in which the club were also cooperative and compliant with the Premier League during proceedings.

In contrast, City have been slapped with 115 charges over multiple financial cycles.

Not only would that require a lot more paperwork, but City are also actively fighting each breach meaning a potential verdict could be a year away.
