Don’t expect any sugarcoating on Carrie Underwood‘s opinions when she joins the judges’ panel of American Idol next season.

During a brief interview between songs performed on ABC’s GMA Summer Concert Series today, Underwood was asked “what kind of judge” she’ll be, hard, soft, something in between?

“I have a problem,” she answered. “I can’t lie. I feel like I’ll be very honest but hopefully I’ll also be very constructive and encouraging.” When GMA‘s Sam Champion suggested he can’t imagine her being too hard on contestants, Underwood seemed to agree, saying, “Oh gosh no. Just ask my kids.”

Watch the GMA interview and her two musical performances below.

Idol announced earlier this week that Underwood will take over for Katy Perry, who’s leaving to focus on her music career. Underwood will judge alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.

Underwood, one of the most famous contestants in the history of Idol, said returning to the show “feels like home,” and that she’ll be able to offer opinions formed her experience as a contestant and now as a judge.

During the GMA concert in Central Park today, she sang two of her hit songs: “Last Name” and “Before He Cheats.” Watch them below.

And in classic daytime show manner, GMA and Underwood gave away two tickets to a very surprised audience member for Underwood’s Las Vegas residency.
