What Manchester United have told Mason Mount amid shock transfer links

Manchester United are not intending on selling Mason Mount this summer, despite the England international being linked with a shock exit.

Mount arrived at Old Trafford ahead of last season in a £55m move from Chelsea, but things did not go as hoped for him over his first campaign with the Red Devils.

The midfielder suffered multiple injuries over the season, including a calf problem which kept him out of action for four months and he struggled to find any sort of rhythm in Erik ten Hag’s team.

The 25-year-old made just five Premier League starts and other than his one league goal against Brentford, made very little impact at all.

With the Red Devils looking to make a number of signings this summer, rumours have swirled suggesting that Mount could be sold already, but the Manchester Evening News reports otherwise.

Mount reportedly ‘has the backing from key figures inside the club’ and as they recognise he was unfortunate with injury last season, he is in fact ‘among the least likely to leave’ during this transfer window.

Ten Hag remains a fan of Mount and there is still hope at Old Trafford that he can develop into an important part of the team.

Clearly if Manchester United received an extremely good offer for the midfielder then their stance could change, but after such a poor season that seems very unlikely.

The Red Devils have already made two signings this summer with Leny Yoro arriving from Lille and Joshua Zirkzee coming in from Bologna.

Business is not set to end there, though, with a midfielder also on their shopping list and Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte a key target.

Personal terms are believed to have been agreed with the Uruguay international, but talks are ongoing between the English and French clubs.
